Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

Online Petition To Prevent The Release of One of The Terrorists Due For Release In the Shalit Exchange

The petition (in which time is of the essence) concerns Ahlam Tamimi, whose victims (15 killed and 130 wounded) include the fifteen-year-old Malki Roth.

Explains Malki's father, Arnold Roth:
'Ahlam Tamimi was not the driver of the Sbarro restaurant suicide bomber. On the day of the massacre (9th August 2001), she personally transported the bomb (10 kg) from a West Bank town into Jerusalem, concealed inside a guitar case. Taxi cabs brought her and an accomplice by the name of Al Masri, a young, newly-religious fanatic, to an Israeli security checkpoint and from there into Jerusalem. To reduce suspicion, they dressed as Israelis and the bomb was not detected. Tamimi, who inspired, planned and engineered the Sbarro attack, personally led her "weapon" - Al Masri - to the target she had carefully selected at Jerusalem's busiest intersection.
The target was a pizza restaurant, selected because it was located in the heart of Jerusalem and on a hot summer vacation afternoon it would be teeming with women and children. Tamimi instructed Al Masri to wait fifteen minutes before detonating the explosives to give her sufficient time to flee the scene safely. He followed her orders. As to this being (as some journalists have implied) an act of momentary madness or lack of sound thinking, take into account that a short time prior to Sbarro attack, Tamimi carried out a 'dry run', placing an explosive inside a downtown Jerusalem supermarket (Hamashbir Lazarchan) which exploded causing damage but resulting in no injuries.
According to a journalist I met who had interviewed her some years ago, she is a charismatic and influential woman who played a central role in Neve Tirza, until now the prison for Palestinian Arab female security prisoners. And, he told me, a monster.'
The logic behind the petition is that if one specific terrorist is removed from the list of those due for release, namely Ahlam Tamimi, it may prompt a much more thorough thinking process about the real damage that will flow from this agreement. The official Israeli version of the to-be-freed list goes out some time tomorrow (perhaps after Shabbat) via the Israeli Prison Service website. If the petition sponsors can obtain a substantial number of supporters by then, they may be able to have some influence over what ensues.

The petition is online here

Giulio Meotti has an article on the prisoner exchange here, entitled "Why Did Israel Betray Its Victims".

  1. Whilst I am happy for the Shalit family, I find this whole deal beyond ridiculous.

We surely must be the laughing stock of the ‘Muslim terrorist world’

What a fine example we have set … quite a precedent

Hamas have already proclaimed they will now we looking to take more hostages and won’t rest until all six thousand Palestinian Arabs in Israeli gaols are free.

None of the MSM have professed admiration for Israel. Everywhere it is reported as a ‘matter of fact, no big deal’

As an American Jew, and lifelong Zionist, I am ashamed today over this "deal". Have not we learned anything from history? Since when do we make arrangements with thugs, gangsters, cutthroats, terrorists, and psychopaths?

Shalits captivity was unfortunately, but he is one person. Now, this deal has endangered thousands of Jews.
His family and others, as opposed to protesting Hamas..took their anger out on the govt. a big mistake.
All this encouraged Hamas, and why not?

What would the Russians have done, if one of their soldiers was in a similar situation? What would any civilized country have done?

Why is Israel acting like good "ghetto Jews"? Why are they afraid of the gentiles?

And what about the families of those Jews killed over the last 40 years..who are watching this farce?
What should they think, their families died in vain?

The 2 cousins indicted for the Fogel family murders..are watching and learning. Barghouti is watching..and cheering, knowing another kidnapping and he goes free.

Barghouti killed 5 people...and gets life terms, instead of a proper hanging or lethal injection.

Israeli leaders need to visit our prisoners in Arizona..they need to visit prisons (death row) in Rick Perrys Texas. And even in my state of California..convicts are at least
in prison for capital crimes for life, waiting execution. .

Israel in general needs to grow up. It needs to end its ghetto mentality and WW2 syndrome of being the victims.

Now we hear that Egypt is violating the treaty..hard fought for by Israel in 73 with 2800 deaths. What if Israel had lost in 67 and 73? Egypt had gas vans..and Syria emasculated the IDF captured.

Israel needs to review its own history these past 63 years.

  2. Seems to be I missed something on the above post.

The part which begins "As an American Jew, and lifelong Zionist" was something I received this morning. It's not my words

  4. I wonder what state Gilad Shalit is in. You can only hope they have had a chance to employ "proof of life" procedures.

  5. Shirl: "Since when do we make arrangements with thugs, gangsters, cutthroats, terrorists, and psychopaths?"

I think we have to accept that we have always had to make arrangements with thugs, gangsters, cutthroats, terrorists and psychopaths.

These particular cutthroats and psychopaths make no secret of their profound contempt for the value we put on life. They regard it as a weakness to be exploited. They worship death and believe that is why they will win.

I believe they are wrong. Our love of life, including a single life, is perhaps our greatest strength and why we are still here while the death cults always end up debris of history. In any event we have no choice but to stand by our values.

  6. Geoff, they are laughing at us. Can't you see that?

They have said they are looking to take more hostages and won’t rest until all six thousand Palestinian Arabs in Israeli gaols are free.
