Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

Release The Balen Report: Please sign the petition to the BBC

C'mon, make Jezza's day!
The Zionist Federation has issued a petition for the release of the  BBC's long-suppressed Balen Report:

"We call upon the BBC to release the findings to the general public of the Balen report that looked into its Middle East coverage and allegations of bias against Israel by the BBC. The BBC has spent over a third of a million pounds on covering up these findings for eight years. We believe this is a misuse of BBC licence fee payers’ money. The BBC should be obligated to reveal to its licence fee payers all the findings of this report on its coverage of the Middle East.

The BBC trust has to ensure that the BBC provides accurate and impartial news. The remit of the Balen report was to examine the BBC’s coverage of the Middle East. By covering up these findings it stops the Trust is not seen to be ensuring that the BBC is a purveyor of accurate and impartial news. The BBC must be accountable to the public it serves. The report should be released without delay. Otherwise, we can only assume that the BBC has something to hide."

  2. Oh, FWIW: I also commented as follows:

I think that the BBC does not only fail to fullfill its charter, it actually has become a naked anti-Israel propagandist. So I think this petition is actually very generous to the BBC and the release of this report should be the very least! Personally I think the BBC should be indicted for peddling hatred against the Jewish people.

  3. I've just seen a repeat of BBC Trust chairman Lord Patten’s interview this morning with Andrew Marr – at one point Patten said: “Our credibility depends on telling the truth about ourselves … no matter how horrible it may be”. All the more reason to demand they release the Balen Report – and to remind the BBC of this quotation from Patten in giving a reason for signing the petition.
I’ve already signed and commented, but hopefully someone else will use this Patten quote when they sign…

  4. Richard Sambrook the BBC news editor who commissioned the Balen report comments on this old blog that there's no 'smoking gun' in the report and so people wanting it divulged would be disappointed. If there's nothing to hide why not release oit then. The BBC's reputation is on the rocks now and they can't be trusted. Let us see the report.
This is the old blog I mean, by one of the BBC staff

  5. I'd encourage non-Brits to sign too - after all, the BBC News website is available all round the world, and it's one of the chief purveyors of BBC bias.
